The colorful characters in The Soul of Sou-Sou will capture your attention, from the very first moment you are introduced to them. The local flea market is where these characters all gather almost every day. There is an array of events that happens on any given day, and you will enjoy every moment of their journey. You may find yourself, sometimes, speaking to the screen, instructing the characters what their next move should be.
You will be cheering and rooting for some, and not for some others. Wilbert is the guy that your heart will often hurt for. He is such a nice guy, but seems doomed when it come to woman. He definitely attracts the extreme, opposite of his personality. Now, just as you will really love the character of Wilbert, you may not necessarily feel the same for Carlene. She has a razor-sharp tongue and a spirit that appears to be one of envy and jealousy; it is horrific. She particularly detests and, seemingly, loathed Sharon. Every opportunity that Carlene has to belittle and berate Sharon, she applies her claws. She has concluded that Sharon is a “loose” woman, and beds every man in her presence. Sharon, however, seems to let the majority of Carlene’s spiteful words evaporate from her mind. She clearly sees the green-eyed monster of a miserable woman. Carlene also noticed that Wilbert has a school-boy type crush on Sharon, and she finds it repulsing to see a grown man so “smitten” this way. Carlene also feels that she would be a better fit for Wilbert. Regardless of how Carlene may appear in the initial present-time, by end-time, she will reveal another side.
You will have the opportunity to meet Mary, a very spiritual lady. Her positive and enthusiastic attitude, however, will sometimes irritate others. There will be a few “shady” characters and incidents too; a little throwing of the fist, resulting in some bruises and contusions. However, those that deserve to prosper and get the dust off of their future, shall, and others will not; plain and simple. The smart thinking, undetected slick smooth moves of one, will bring a huge beneficial package for several.
When you observe our basic human behavior, when watching a movie, the majority of us trend to love a happy ending. Once you are involved with the characters, you always want to see the underdog that has been hurt through-out the film, go off into the sunset and live happily ever after. Although you know, somewhere, deep down inside that these characters are not real; leaving the theatre feeling their life is finally happier, makes ours feel a little better. And that ladies and gentlemen, is what this film does!
