THE GNJ DIABETIC FOUNDATION, INC
The GNJ Diabetic Foundation was founded me, Jobie Sprout, in remembrance of my late father and for my mother, who is presently on dialysis. The foundation’s purpose is to raise funds for dialysis machines and for the maintenance of them in Jamaica and other participating Caribbean Islands. Having the proper and best machines are critical for saving lives.
I plan to help raise funds, via my talents; I will use my screenplays, stage plays, designed products, etc… as a means to do so. The lack of dialysis treatment in the Caribbean Islands is often the cause of early death there. Diabetes was the seventh leading cause of death in the United States in 2010 based on the 69,071 death certificates, in which, diabetes was listed as the underlying cause of death. In 2010, diabetes was mentioned as a cause of death in a total of 234,051 certificates. Studies have found that only about 35% to 40% of people with diabetes, who died, had diabetes listed anywhere on the death certificate. Only about 10% to 15% had it listed as the underlying cause of death. These facts prompted me to dig deeper into a solution. This is when I started to envision “The GNJ Diabetic Foundation”.
Dialysis machines have a proven track record for saving lives, and also adding years to ones’ life; my father was one of them. He had 12 more years added to his life, with dialysis treatment. My mother is still receiving treatment; she has been for over 10 years now.
I feel, if executed properly, my foundation can reach a large population of people in need. With the right people on board, I will make incredible changes. I will have the best quality service, which make me a key player in making the Caribbean Islands equipped, to properly treat diabetes. My company is passionate with creating an unmatched solution that will tap into all my talents, in order to make funds for financing the dialysis program.
